What are the recovery methods for articles deleted or altered on the backend, divided into two paths according to the action type: deleted documents first check the Recycle Bin, altered content first check the Draft and Pending Publication status for any revertable versions left. If neither can be saved, there is only the last line of defense, data backup. First, determine which category it belongs to, which can avoid spending time at the wrong entry.

First, distinguish between deleting incorrectly and deleting too much

The document status is divided into four types: formal documents, drafts, pending publication, and recycling station. The action of deleting a formal document is to move it to the recycling station, not to delete it from the library. This step is very critical: as long as it is in the recycling station, the title, content, classification, and tags are still complete, and the address does not change after restoration. Conversely, if a clearout is done in the recycling station, or a batch sorting with deletion conditions is done, that is an irreversible action that requires backup.

What can be recovered from the recycling station?

Documents in the recycle bin can be restored to their original state. When recovering, confirm three items one by one: whether the category still exists, whether the tags have been deleted at the same time, and whether the images and attachments in the main text still point to valid locations. It is easiest to have problems when the column is deleted together, with the document still in the recycle bin but the directory structure no longer exists. After restoration, you need to manually reclassify and supplement the anchor text.

When correcting mistakes, which part should you look at first?

There are two types of error correction. One is when the content text is overwritten: If there is a draft version before this modification is saved, the draft can be used as a fallback reference; the draft link with preview=true allows you to compare the content without publishing and decide. Another is the overall impact of configuration changes, such as replacing keywords or links in bulk across the entire site, which affects multiple documents and cannot be resolved by reverting a single document; it requires changing each replacement record one by one, or restoring from a backup before the replacement action.

What actions should be taken after recovery?

The content returning is not equal to the link returning. Add three things: if the address has changed during the recovery period, add a 301 redirect to the old address; if there has been active push during this time, use link push to resend the restored page to avoid the engine still staying on the crawling results during the failure period; if the deleted is the column page, check if the site map has been regenerated, and whether there are still addresses that do not exist.

How to use this last line of defense for backup

AnQiCMS supports data backup and recovery, static files can also be included in the backup range. Remember three prerequisites with this line: the backup must have a time stamp to determine which day you can roll back to; the backup must be verified for recoverability, as an unreadable archive file on the disk is no backup at all; the recovery must be practiced in a clean environment at least once, otherwise, when a real emergency occurs, no one knows how long the recovery will take, or whether it will overwrite existing data. Making these three points into a routine action is much more reliable than looking for backup files temporarily.

Common questions

Is there a retention period for the recycle bin?Keep the retention policy in line with the site's own cleanup actions and backup cycles. Do not treat it as long-term archiving. If you need to keep historical versions, save a copy as a draft or rely on backups with time stamps.

Can you undo the entire operation after batch deletion?There is no undo button for such actions. Before batch operations, filter the range by category and status and make a backup first. Turn irreversible actions into reversible ones, which is the cheapest form of protection.

What should you do if you only restored the database but not the images?First, fill in the static file directory from the file backup of the same time, and then check the position of the pictures in the main text. Only the library is restored without files, the page can be opened but resources will be missing, such situations should be discovered in advance in the drill.

Can the deleted document only be restored with content without restoring the address?Yes, but the change of address will affect the collection and internal links. A more stable approach is to restore to the original address and then review the external links and in-site references that have been changed once.
