Content stations are injected with SQL to become promotional pages, and after the incident, it is necessary to check the impact on collection at several places.
After the content site is hacked by SQL injection and the page is changed to a promotional page, what should be checked after the event to see the impact on indexing? First, check if the modified page has entered the index, then see if the overwritten content can be recovered, and finally handle the entry. The order is reversed, resulting in the worst outcome: the page has been fixed, but the version with promotional content is still in the search results, continuing to drive traffic. A public monitoring incident in May 2026 can be used as a sample: a high-risk injection vulnerability in a content system was used to unauthorizedly obtain site data. Over the ten days from May 7 to 17, the pages of more than seven hundred sites were poisoned into promotional pages. The difficulty in handling such events is not in repairing itself, but in the cleanup on the collection side.
Firstly, define the range of pages that have been changed
The scope depends on evidence rather than guesswork, using three clues.
Check for writing痕迹 in the data layer: the recent modification time of the title, abstract, content and template fields in the database, screen for interval screening during abnormal periods, a single injection often covers batches of records rather than a single one.
Page level content difference: Use promotional keywords (traffic links, irrelevant brand words, abnormal contact information) as a filter condition, run through the text in the library, and find two types of records that have been rewritten and implanted. Implantation usually occurs in templates or additional fields, and only checking the main text will miss.
External layer index list: Compare the addresses listed in the site map with the actual collected addresses, and the difference set contains both historical遗留 problems and abnormal pages collected this time. This step produces a list of items to be processed, and it is easy to only handle half of them if the scope is not clear.
Confirm whether these pages have been indexed
Modified but never indexed, the impact is short-term; even if the original text is restored after being indexed, the abnormal version will still exist for a while. There are three ways to confirm:
First, check if the title or description snippet of the promoted version can still be retrieved from the index results, which is the most direct evidence. Then, look at the crawling records of the corresponding path after the attack in the crawling log, and there is a chance to be stored if there is a crawling. Finally, check if there are links pointing to these addresses within the site, and internal links will continue to provide an entry for the crawler.
Handle these three simultaneously: change the content, remove internal pointers, and return a clear status for addresses that should not exist rather than rendering the page as usual. Only changing the content and not the pointers is equivalent to leaving an entrance waiting to be caught a second time.
Find two paths to retrieve the overwritten content
The first is the recycle bin. Deleting formal documents in such systems is moving them to the recycle bin rather than deleting them physically. If the attack action is to delete the old and create a new one, the original version deleted is usually found in the recycle bin, and the recovery speed is much faster than recovering from backups.
The second one is a full site backup. The cases where the recycle bin does not cover are overwritten on the spot - the content is updated instead of being deleted. In this case, it is necessary to restore the specified records according to the backup, or to extract the original text from the backup and compare and rewrite it item by item. The backup must include static files, otherwise, when restoring the main text, the template and attachments will still be in the state modified by the attacker, looking fixed but actually still leaking.
The common prerequisite for the two paths is that there is an available backup in advance. After the fact, when looking for backup files, it is often encountered that there are exports without templates or backups that are earlier than content changes. The wrong recovery point selection is equivalent to putting the attack content back together, so it is necessary to confirm the backup time and content status in an isolated environment before recovery.
Block the entrance: query concatenation and form
The root cause of injection is in the query construction method. All writable entries should be reviewed according to the same standard: query parameters should be bound parameterizedly, and user input should not be directly spliced into the statement; for form entries, perform field validation and length restrictions, and接入人机验证挡住批量提交;on the display side, escape the output, separate cross-site scripting and injection, and only blocking one layer will leave another layer.
In terms of built-in capabilities, interface authentication and sensitive word filtering, and anti-crawling interference codes belong to different responsibilities: authentication determines who can write, filtering determines how the content that is written in is handled, and interference codes are for the content that has already been taken away. All three are needed, but they should be verified separately when investigating; one cannot assume that the other is effective just because one of them is turned on.
Finally, it is about permissions. The fewer fields that can be written to, the less content that can be overwritten; high-risk operations are set separately with switches and not exposed by default, which can reduce the direct impact of such events.
Common questions
After changing the content, should you submit it for re-indexing?Need to, first clear the internal links pointing to the abnormal page, then go through the overlay action; if the order is reversed, the abnormal address will be sent again.
What should I do if there is no backup?First check the recycle bin and historical version records; if neither is available, you can only retrieve the original text page by page from the publicly accessible cache, which is expensive and incomplete.
How long will it take to confirm that it is cleaned up?Take the index list as the standard: only when the abnormal address does not appear in two consecutive crawling cycles is it considered to be completed.
What should be done if the implanted redirect link is in the template?Investigate the template and additional fields at the file level; only clearing the database will leave a recurrence entry.
