Feature Introduction

With more and more content on the corporate official website, should the on-site search be planned separately?

The signal for a separate planning of in-site search is that navigation can no longer bear the search needs: the classification hierarchy has deepened, the types of content have increased, and users come with specific words. There are a total of 14 modules related to collection and search in the AnQiCMS backend, including full-text search, and they are also in the same management capabilities as llms.txt, keyword library, and custom content model. This article explains what scale needs to be separately configured for search, how search terms and keyword libraries should cooperate, and whether custom fields can be included in the search scope.

Search Content Management

Feature Introduction

As the content of the company's official website increases, should the internal search be planned separately? When visitors start to bypass the navigation and search for specific words directly, the internal search is no longer just an auxiliary function of the background, but a separate planned retrieval entry. The object of planning is not the search box itself, but three配套的事情:which fields are involved in the search, where the search terms come from, and how to proceed after the hit.

The internal search and navigation solve different problems

Navigation presents content according to the organization structure of the site, and retrieval accesses content based on the words in the visitor's mind. Both overlap when the amount of content is small, but separate when the amount is large: when the classification level exceeds two layers, the content type appears for the third time, or the same theme is scattered across different classifications. If any of these three conditions are met, navigation can no longer fulfill the role of discovery.

AnQiCMS backend and collection, retrieval capabilities are organized by modules, a total of 14 modules, covering llms.txt, sitemap, link push, full-text search, content translation, and other directions. When planning in-site search, it should be considered together with this set of modules, rather than a separate external retrieval service, otherwise, the two indexes will be inconsistent for a long time after content updates.

How do search terms and keyword libraries coordinate?

The effect of on-site search depends on whether the query words match the content words. The keyword library centrally manages the SEO keywords of the site, and the same set of words can serve two directions at the same time: synonym expansion for front-end retrieval, and word uniformity in content production.

The implementation order is to build the word library first and then discuss matching: list the differences between the words actually used by visitors and the words used in the on-site titles, and supplement high-frequency difference items into the text or as synonyms for maintenance. Without a word library, retrieval can only be literal matching, and if the user searches for 'quote' while the article is written as 'price', there will be zero results.

What content should be involved in the search

The full text search defaults to covering the text and title, the decision of which fields in the custom content model need to be made separately. AnQiCMS supports custom content models and custom fields, product parameters, service specifications, frequently asked questions and other structured fields are often the content that visitors are really looking for; excluding them from the search range will result in 'the answer is on the page but cannot be found.'

The criteria for judgment can be divided according to the nature of the field: fields that visitors use as filtering conditions enter the search, fields that are only used for background statistics or display do not enter, and fields that contain sensitive information do not enter.

The next step after hitting

The search page is not the end. The hit list should be able to continue guiding, and the anchor text of the in-site keywords is responsible for this part: keywords appearing in the text are automatically directed to the corresponding page according to the anchor text rules, so the pages hit by the search can also bring out related content.

Another easily overlooked check is the zero results page. Zero results do not mean that the content does not exist, it may also be a mismatch of words. Regularly returning zero result query records to the keyword library is the most cost-effective and direct step in search planning.

Common questions

Question: When does the amount of content need to be planned separately for search?Answer: Not looking at the absolute number of articles, but whether the navigation can still meet the discovery needs. If the classification exceeds two levels, a third type of content appears, or zero result queries begin to appear, any of the three is worth planning.

Question: Can the main text of the attachment be searched together?Answer: It depends on whether there is an analysis and indexing phase. A feasible approach is to summarize the key content of the attachment into the main text of the document or a custom field, and then include it in the search, which is easier to control the quality of the search results than directly indexing the original attachment.

Question: Should the organization of content for large-scale models be done together with the search? Can we share the same structure? llms.txt and full-text search both depend on clear content segmentation. First, clarify the field and theme boundaries, and both will benefit, no need to make two rounds of transformation.

Should the email reminder and email subscription be opened together, and how to configure the notification chain to not disturb people?

Email reminders are for events facing site administrators, and email subscriptions are for regular updates of site content. Both have different links and switches should be separated. This article explains how to converge the reminder scope by event type, how to reduce duplicate notifications by the review process of comments and messages, and how to coordinate with form-side verification measures to avoid disturbing operations and subscription users at the same time.

Should comments and messages both have captcha, and how to arrange the anti-spam division of labor?

Comments and replies do not necessarily require captcha: Human verification only solves the problem of whether it is a real person submitting, and cannot prevent spam content sent by real people or bulk submissions through the API. The division of labor should be arranged in three layers, with human verification on the form side to prevent robots, sensitive word filtering and keyword replacement to prevent non-compliant expressions on the content side, limiting batch behaviors on the API side according to the call source and frequency, and finally, a layer of manual review of comments and replies.

Set different visible content for different member groups, and make the granularity of permissions as fine as possible.

The granularity of visible content for membership groups should not be set to article control from the very beginning. First, define user identity by grouping dimensions, then divide the visible range by columns or content types, and only descend to fields and individual articles when there are indeed commercial differences. The finer the granularity, the higher the maintenance cost and the probability of misrelease, and the recycling bin and draft status are the bottom line means after the match is wrong.
